Max Currie wants the Diamonds to raise their game to secure a win over Partick Thistle and banish the disappointment of last weekend’s defeat at Peterhead.

Airdrie welcome Ian McCall’s Partick to the Penny Cars Stadium on Saturday after going down 1-0 to the Blue Toon following Kyle Turner’s fourth-minute red card.

It was a frustrating result for the Diamonds in their first game back after the suspension of lower league football - but while some clubs have been bemoaning the hectic schedule, Currie insists that he and his Airdrie team-mates are thrilled with the fast-moving nature of their remaining fixtures.

“During the break I was still working my day job, but the club had also prepared training schedules in case this happened, so I was always busy working or out running. Ironically Saturday was the only day I got to relax!”

“It’s great to be back, the games are coming thick and fast and as a player you look forward to each weekend for the game, so to have two or three in a week is a bonus.”

As Airdrie attempt to recover from their Balmoor setback, Currie believes that the outcome was influenced by the early sending-off.

“We knew going to Peterhead was going to be a hard game for many reasons. We have looked really sharp in training since we have started back, so as a team we were confident of getting a result.

“After the red card four minutes in, the game changes completely and the shape that you have worked on all week in training also changes. If we’d had eleven players on the park I’d have been confident of a different outcome.”

With three matches to negotiate next week, the Diamonds must pick themselves up quickly to remain in play-off contention as a number of teams fight for a top-half finish.

Currie is focussed on looking forward, and the 24-year-old is ready to make amends.

“We don’t dwell on the result. After the game it’s done, there’s nothing we can do about.

“We must look forward to the next game and be fully focused on putting things right, and that starts with training in the week leading up to the Partick game.”

Thistle make their first visit to the Penny Cars Stadium since a 2-1 Betfred Cup win in July 2017. The Jags won by the same scoreline when Airdrie travelled to Firhill on League One duty earlier this season, Brian Graham and Blair Spittal turning the scoreline around after Dale Carrick had given the Diamonds the lead.

Max knows from that experience that Airdrie will have to be at their best to secure a positive result on Saturday.

“I’m expecting a very tough game against Partick, they’re a good side with good players - however so are we.

“There’s every chance it will be an end to end match, and these are the games where we need the whole team to be at it 100%.”

Manager Ian Murray is looking forward to getting back in the Penny Cars dugout.

“It’s good to be back at home as we look to get back to winning ways after last week’s disappointment.

“Partick have already taken three points against us this season, although we felt we were the better side for large parts of that match, so we’re expecting a hard game as usual but we’re ready for it.”

The manager confirmed that his squad had “no new injury worries”, with former Thistle stalwart Paul Paton joining on loan this week. Kyle Turner is suspended following his debut dismissal.
