Divine Iserhienrhien and Gavin Gallagher scored two apiece as Airdrie hit Bonnyrigg Rose for six to make it four wins on the bounce.

On a fine evening for the Diamonds, striker Iserhienrhien opened the scoring with his first Airdrie goal and was only denied a hat-trick by an unfortunate touch for Rose skipper Neil Martyniuk.

As has become customary in the KDM Evolution Trophy, boss John Rankin rang the changes following Saturday’s win at Peterhead, with seven players dropping out of the starting XI. Coming in alongside Iserhienrhien and Gallagher was recent signing Reghan Tumilty.

The Diamonds took the game to their Lowland League opponents from the off, AJ Bridge and Lewis Gibson pulling the strings in the early stages.

Bridge saw a ninth-minute strike deflected behind and flighted in an excellent free-kick four minutes later, Craig Ross heading over the bar from a few yards out.

Iserhienrhien had his first sight of goal on 16 minutes, but Bonnyrigg goalkeeper Marc Anderson blocked well with his legs.

Jonny Stewart’s men made their first meaningful foray up the park on 20 minutes, but Ruairidh Adams did well to pluck a curling cross out of the air.

A minute later the Diamonds were in front, and Iserhienrhien was in the right place to slot home after Gibson’s shot had come back off the post and Gallagher had squeezed the ball through for the 18-year-old striker to finish.

The goal opened the floodgates, and the hosts replied three minutes later with the goal of the match, Rose veteran Lee Currie smashing a 30-yard free-kick home via the underside of the crossbar.

The goals kept coming as Iserhienrhien put Airdrie back in front on 28 minutes, Gallagher teeing up Gibson whose low cross was sidefooted home with aplomb.

Adams spared his own blushes when he passed straight to a Bonnyrigg forward outside the area with 32 minutes played, but as the ball spun up in the air the Scotland U21 keeper had the wherewithal to win the aerial challenge and clear for touch.

Gavin Gallagher got in on the scoring act a minute later, controlling Tumilty’s pass and poking through Anderson’s legs to make it 3-1.

There was no let-up for the Rose as Airdrie quickly added a fourth, Tumilty again providing the assist from the right hand side, and as Martynuik slid in to prevent Iserhienrhien tapping home he succeeded only in turning the ball into his own net.

Having teed up two, debutant Tumilty tried to get in on the act himself with a dipping effort from just past halfway, but Anderson watched it all the way and gathered safely.

The former St Johnstone man went even closer on 39 minutes, beating the keeper from somewhat closer in only to see his strike well blocked just in front of goal, and the Diamonds took their 4-1 lead into half-time.

The second half began in slightly flatter fashion, a booking for Bridge and a half-hearted Gibson penalty claim the only incidents of note in the early stages.

Both sides made changes around the hour-mark, but it was an Airdrie starter who added to the scoreline on 67 minutes as Gallagher grabbed his second, blasting home after Tumilty had linked with trialist Tom Pickford. Although the strike was netbound, Anderson was wrong-footed by a slight deflection.

More changes followed before Anderson saved well from Gallagher, who was keen to secure his hat-trick.

An 86th-minute Bonnyrigg free-kick was well held by Adams, and two minutes later Airdrie put the icing on the cake as Pickford finished well after latching onto a sublime Gallagher pass.

A bountiful night in Midlothian for the Diamonds, who welcome Berwick Rangers to the Albert Bartlett on Saturday for the penultimate group phase tie.
