A wonder-strike from Jamie Bain secured a home draw for Airdrie after going behind to Brechin.

After 5 minutes Fraser’s free kick was headed clear and Docherty volleyed the ball well over the crossbar.

A minute later after good play with Blockley and Prunty saw the ball ushered to Fitzpatrick whose 20 yard effort appeared to have been blocked by hands in the air as it was sent for a corner.

Brechin keeper Smith then punched a cross into the box then turned away Fraser’s shot on goal for a corner, while Gilfillan rose to head the subsequent delivery from a corner over the top of goal.

Trouten found himself in space in 13 minutes but curled a shot well away from the goal frame.

After 16 minutes Thomson headed a Fusco cross just wide of goal.

A minute later McLean’s free kick found Thomson but his shot was blocked and ran through to McNeil.

Gasporotto rose high to flick a Fraser cross from a free kick over the goal.

Indecision in the Brechin defence almost led to the ball being ushered into the net in 38 minutes but Smith took control and collected the ball.

Both sides went close as the half time whistle approached.

Jackson and Trouten combined in 44 minutes with the final shot just over the top of goal and a minute later Fitzpatrick fired the ball just wide.

Goals did come after the break.

With 50 minutes gone Blockley fired the ball just over after receiving a Lister knock on.

Fraser found Lister 3 minutes later and after making space watched his shot taken comfortably by Smith.

With 59 minutes on the clock, the visitors went in front.

A good run by Thomson was followed by a shot on the edge of the area that looked to have been blocked but the ball fell nicely for Trouten in front of goal and he passed the ball into the net.

Fraser curled a 25 yard free kick just too high in 61 minutes as the Diamonds sought an equaliser. It came in 69 minutes thanks to a wonder strike by Bain from 30 yards out.

The build-up owed much to some great play by Blockley who won the ball inside the box then teed it up for his team mate.

Bain took a couple of steps before firing high into the postage stamp corner.

Airdrie pushed for victory and went so close twice.

In 84 minutes Paddy Boyle was quick to race on to a loose clearance then showed great control inside the box before seeing his attempt on goal blocked by Smith in 84 minutes.

Into stoppage time and a wonderful run by Gasporotto to the front post saw him meet Fraser’s corner and the ball was netbound until Smith made a fantastic save to turn it over the bar.
A point apiece like their last meeting but the Diamonds are still unbeaten by Brechin.
