SPFL League One
Airdrieonians
0-2
Peterhead
Rogers 73
Cox 77
For the second successive Saturday, the Airdrieonians’ support, players and management were nursing a feeling of injustice at the outcome of their league fixture.
In 17 minutes Watt sent Bain down the left and his attempted cross to Parker across the other side of goal lacked power and the danger was mopped up by the Peterhead back line.
A minute later a Paddy Boyle attempt was powerful enough and only just raced past Lister and wide when any contact might have directed the ball towards goal.
With 23 minutes played Rogers went to ground in the corner of the penalty area, with no decision taken in favour or against the forward.
Parker and Watt picked up cheap yellow cards for unsporting behaviour before Peterhead’s first real venture in 26 minutes to threaten in the final third, when Sharp’s cross was too heavy and Noble’s back post effort was well wide.
On the half hour Watt fired in a powerful volley from the edge of the penalty box that keeper Smith parried out before the danger was cleared.
3 minutes into the second half with Parker racing clear, Donaldson tugged him and the striker went down. Parker was given a second yellow to send him off. It was a critical decision as the visitors offered little up to that stage.
Lister worked well and fired a low shot to Smith’s right in 65 minutes that the keeper pushed to the side and gathered.
Two goals in 4 minutes provided a victory for the visitors.
In the 73rd minute they scored with their first shot on target after a Sharp cross into the box found Rogers who had time to control the ball and turn the ball past McNeil.
4 minutes later Cox outpaced Fitzpatrick, racing on to a Ross long ball forward and the substitute poked the ball past McNeil for a second goal.
