A strong second-half display by Airdrie went unrewarded as Jamie McCluskey's goal secured the points for Morton.

It was the third meeting in 15 days for the two sides following their cup games.

An early deflected effort from Blockley broke to Parker in behind the Morton rearguard but he fluffed his attempt at goal as it ran through to Gaston.

McManus fired high over the top with an effort in 3 minutes.

On the quarter hour mark McNeil was down early to collect McCluskey’s long range shot.

Parker had the ball in the net in 19 minutes, but an offside flag for Prunty saw it disallowed.

In 23 minutes a McManus effort fell into Barrowman’s path and he hit the post with a shot. The ball then struck McNeil with Crawford gathering the loose ball and finding Barrowman who netted but Crawford was offside and again, another goal was chalked off.

Good covering back saw Blockley deflect a dangerous shot for goal by McManus but Morton went in front with 5 minutes of the half to play.

McManus went past Fitzpatrick on the left, raced to the line then sent the ball across goal with McCluskey tapping it into the net.
Airdrie had more of the ball after the break but could not threaten Gaston with attempts on goal.

They tried from long range and continual crosses into the box but were unable to meet their opponent’s superior height advantage.

The closest Airdrie came was in 75 minutes when a long ball bounced over the Morton back line and Parker raced into the box but an interception by Crighton was able to clear the ball with the visitors able to see out the match for all three points.

The result saw Airdrie return to second bottom after Stenhousemuir beat Dunfermline.
