A goal in either half from Morton hitman Andy Barrowman was enough to knock makeshift Airdrie out of the Scottish Cup.

The Diamonds had to reshuffle the back line for the match and Morton started with purpose and had a succession of early corners which Airdrie defended well.

With 8 minutes gone Scott Fraser picked up the ball midway into the visitors half and ended a run with a shot that was blocked ran easily in to Gaston.

Morton went close in 13 minutes after Barrowman headed down for McCluskey who fired wide.

After 19 minutes Jamie Bain raced on to the ball in the middle took a few steps forward before sending a low 20 yard shot that lacked power.

Both sides were constantly giving ball away when in possession.

In 28 minutes Barrowman’s lunge on Watt saw him booked but 8 minutes later that was forgotten as he scored the opening goal.

A pass from Scullion on the edge of the box found Barrowman and he sent an angled shot into the net.

As Airdrie tried to press they were lacking in the final third with Scott Fraser having the final attempt of the half just before the whistle, but he fired wide of goal.

2 minutes after the restart a Kilday pass found Scullion and his shot was well saved by McNeil. Barrowman who was following up was offside.

With 51 minutes gone Bain’s pass to Blockley saw him hit a powerful 30 yard shot that was taken comfortably by Gaston.

Airdrie offered more in the second half without providing a real threat to keeper Gaston.

In 74 minutes Cadden struck a 30 yard free kick that lacked power into the body of Gaston.
Morton scored a second goal which seemed to end the contest when Allan found space down the left and fired an angled shot that McNeil pushed away, but Barrowman followed up to net the rebound.

Scott Stewart went close in 81 minutes with an angled shot that hit the bar.

Fraser fired wide from inside the box minutes later but like the last time the sides met in the cup after drawing at Cappielow, the Diamonds are beaten at home in the replay.
