Airdrie's unbeaten run came crashing to an end at the hands of Peterhead in wintery conditions at New Broomfield.

The Diamonds had to reshuffle the pack again and their early play suggested they would be taking the game to their guests.

A Blockley cross caused some concern but was cleared upfield as Airdrie enjoyed some control from the kick off.

A long ball forward in 6 minutes though found McAllister wide on the left and he was afforded time and space to send the ball into the box for Strachan to head-flick in at McNeil's left post.

Blockley had a great opportunity to level the scoring 2 minutes later when Bain’s cross from the right picked him out but the midfielder’s downward header from 10 yards out was so powerful that the ball bounced up and well over the crossbar.

Airdrie did equalise two minutes later after good build up play saw the ball switched to Fraser and from 25 yards out he fired a terrific shot past Smith.

Strachan and McAllister had attempts at goal before a fine Fraser free kick was flicked on in 20 minutes for Prunty, whose shot was saved by Smith.

2 minutes later good hold up play by Prunty was followed by a neat lay off to Blockley. His shot was pushed out by keeper Smith but Prunty’s attempt from the rebound was off target.

In 24 minutes Ross rose high to head Stevenson’s cross from a corner wide of goal.

Bain was next up in 28 minutes to shoot wide after Prunty picked him out with a pass.

Fraser’s snapshot in 31 minutes saw his volley from the corner of the penalty area just wide of Smith’s goal.

9 minutes from the interval a powerful O’Neil cross was met by Prunty and his shot was pushed away by Smith. Richards-Everton then headed Docherty’s free kick wide of the target.

For all their pressure Airdrie went in at the break a goal down after Stevenson’s corner struck Fitzpatrick and ended up in the net two minutes from the interval.

The second half was only 2 minutes old when Richards-Everton's foul on McAllister on the edge of the box saw Stevenson curl the ball beyond McNeil at the left post from the free kick.

Airdrie tried in vain to get back in the match but they were faced with a very physical Peterhead rearguard action, while they had numbers back to make their half a very congested place with Airdrie lacking the guile to break through.

Stevenson tried a couple of long range free kicks at McNeil with one 40 yard attempt being pushed on to the crossbar at it seemed to catch the keeper out.
Fraser went close in 59 minutes but chipped his lobbed attempt too high over Smith and the crossbar.

Cox was lucky not to have seen red after his challenge on Paddy Boyle late in the game, when he only saw yellow, but was quickly removed by his manager two minutes later.

The win gave the Blue Toon their second win in their two visits and saw them leapfrog the Diamonds in the table.
