Airdrie suffered their second cup exit in a week with Livingston advancing to the third round of the League Cup.

A goal in each half from Andrew Barrowman and substitute Kyle Wilkie earned the Lions a deserved victory at New Broomfield on Tuesday night.

Diamonds boss Jimmy Boyle made three changes to the side which lost 6-0 to Rangers with Grant Evans, Martin Hardie and Garry Hay drafted into the starting line-up.

Suspension ruled out full-back Chris O'Neil while wide men Jamie Bain and Willie McLaren dropped to the bench.

In the eighth minute, Airdrie keeper Colin Stewart was forced into a save from Martin Scott as Livi applied some early pressure.

The Diamonds almost took the lead in the 29th minute when Hardie, who later limped off with an ankle injury, curled an effort against the bar.

But they fell behind nine minutes later. Lewis Coult lost possession with Coll Donaldson quickly feeding midfield team-mate Ross Docherty.

The youngster looked up and played a delightful ball between Darren McCormack and Paddy Boyle for Barrowman to chase and the striker showed real quality when he blasted the ball in at the near post.

Livi could have been further ahead at the interval. A Danny Denholm shot was deflected just wide before Simon Mensing nodded a Connor McDonald set-piece inches past the post.

Richie Burke's men continued to press after the break and, in the 55th minute, Docherty's low effort was smothered by Stewart.

The visitors doubled their lead in the 67th minute. Airdrie were unable to clear their lines and Wilkie took advantage by firing a shot in off Stewart's right-hand post.

Coult headed wide a Jim Lister cross two minutes later. It was Airdrie's last real opportunity with Mike Mampuya hitting the woodwork late-on at the other end.
