Airdrieonians crashed to the bottom of the SPFL League One table after Forfar's first-ever win at New Broomfield.

Goals from trialist Jamie McCluskey and substitute Ross Campbell were enough to earn the Loons all three points on Saturday.

The Diamonds made three changes to the side which lost 3-2 to Arbroath at Gayfield last weekend.

Suspension ruled out Chris O'Neil so Gregor Buchanan was included with Jamie Bain replacing the injured Nathan Blockley. Striker Jim Lister returned at the expense of midfielder Liam Watt.

Forfar took the lead in the 13th minute. On-loan Dundee United forward Dale Hilson did well to beat Grant Evans and square for McCluskey who made no mistake.

Dick Campbell's men were on the attack three minutes later with Gavin Malin, from a lovely McCluskey ball, denied by Diamonds keeper Scott Gallacher.

Airdrie could have equalised in the 41st minute. Lister nodded down in a congested penalty area for Liam Coogans but his shot lacked power and was saved by Darren Hill.

A minute later, the Loons mounted a raid down their left-hand side with Gavin Swankie's dangerous ball across the face of goal almost turned into their own net by a combination of Evans and Paddy Boyle.

A Swankie shot was saved by Gallacher early in the second half before Malin rounded the keeper and drove wide five minutes later as Forfar pushed forward.

The Diamonds could have plundered an equaliser in the 64th minute but teenager Liam Coogans blasted his effort over the bar.

Seven minutes later, Hilson was denied by Gallacher. Airdrie's final opportunity came when midfielder Martin Hardie nodded wide a Willie McLaren corner.

But Forfar sealed the points in the second minute of injury time. Referee Barry Cook ruled that Evans fouled Chris Templeman in the area with Campbell converting the resulting spot-kick.
