Airdrie fought back and battled hard to earn a point against Cowdenbeath with a 1:1 draw at Central Park.

Both goals came in the second half, with the Blue Brazil taking the lead before Gregor Buchanan headed home an equaliser.

John Boyle returned to Airdrie's line-up with Jamie Bain dropping to the bench, while ex-Diamond Jamie Stevenson started for the Fifers along with player/manager Colin Cameron.

Grant Adam also made his second debut after Airdrie secured him on a month-long emergency loan from St Mirren, and it wasn't long until he was called into action.

A mis-header from captain David Lilley was latched onto by Greg Stewart and was well saved by Adam.

Greg Stewart was Cowdenbeath's main threat, but Lilley too seemed to be a danger to the Airdrie goal as he headed the wrong way from a Cowdenbeath corner, Marc Warren being able to clear the ball and spare Lilley the embarrassment of an own goal.

At the other end of the spectrum Adam himself managed to get a shot on goal, lumping the ball up the park from a quick free-kick and forcing Thomas Flynn into a save.

In the second half Stewart continued to menace the visitors who were lucky as he hit wide despite being one-on-one with Adam.

With just over 20 minutes to go, a Cowdenbeath corner was met by the head of Kyle Miller, and Nathan Blockley was on the front post to save the day.

The Diamonds' resistance couldn't hold much longer, as the resulting corner was met by a free header from Greg Stewart to break the deadlock.

Lewis Coult nearly made it 2-0 a minute later when Flynn's long ball was missed by several players but Coult hit his shot straight at Adam.

Soon they paid the price as a Warren free-kick from just inside the Cowdenbeath half was met by the head of Gregor Buchanan in the box for his second goal in as many games.

It made for an entertaining last 15 minutes, but neither side could capitalise on their chances.

Now in 9th place due to Hamilton's huge win against Partick Thistle on Friday night, the Diamonds face Raith again next week.
