AIRDRIE crashed out of the Ramsdens Challenge Cup at the hands of Third Division East Stirling.

Goals from Scott Maxwell, Kevin Turner and substitute Michael Herd earned Shire an easy win on Tuesday night.

The Diamonds made three changes to the team which beat Dumbarton 4-1 at the weekend in their Irn-Bru First Division opener.

Gavin Griffin, Nathan Blockley and Sean Lynch came in to replace Marc Warren, Jamie Barclay and Ryan Donnelly.

But it was the home side who took the lead in the 24th minute. A defensive miscue by David Lilley saw Maxwell take full advantage after linking with Paul Quinn.

Turner doubled Shire's lead nine minutes later, netting at the second attempt after his initial shot was blocked by Kenny Arthur.

The Diamonds' first shot on target arrived in the 82nd minute when John Boyle's effort was saved by Ryan McWilliams.

Arthur made a brilliant fingertip stop from Maxwell five minutes later.

It was a glorious evening for John Coughlin's who head to Ibrox for a date with Rangers this Saturday.

And they rounded it off in style when Herd curled a low shot into the bottom corner of the net.
