Kwame Boateng says a win is the only thing that matters as Airdrie travel to take on Bonnyrigg Rose in Tuesday’s KDM Evolution Trophy tie.

The sides both have two wins and a loss under their belts in the group phase ahead of the New Dundas Park meeting, with the Diamonds looking to build on a three-match winning streak in all competitions.

The latest of those came in Saturday’s League 1 victory at Peterhead, with a Callum Burnside double bringing the points back down the A90.

Speaking after the Balmoor clash, defender Boateng praised the Airdrie supporters who made the long journey north.

“It’s a massive win, Peterhead’s not an easy place to come to. I feel like it was a good team performance.

“It’s one of the furthest away games in the league, so the fans’ backing was so important and we could hear them the whole game – it was very helpful!”

There’s no let up in the action as Airdrie quickly turn their attentions to Bonnyrigg, who were relegated from League 2 at the end of season 24/25 after being unable to recover from a hefty points deduction.

The sides have met twice in competitive fixtures, with both meetings coming in the last four seasons.

Airdrie were 3-0 winners at the Albert Bartlett Stadium in last season’s Premier Sports Cup, with Rhys Armstrong, Euan Henderson, and Lewis McGrattan grabbing the goals.

It was a closer affair at New Dundas Park two years prior, when it took a late Josh O’Connor penalty to secure a 1-0 Airdrie win in the same competition.

Boateng may not be overly familiar with Tuesday’s opponents, but he says that Airdrie’s sole focus must be on a fourth consecutive victory.

“For me, it’s a must-win game on Tuesday, just because we want to get through as quickly as possible.

“We’re starting to build momentum now, the players are starting to get to know each other more, we’re starting to believe in each other – and that’s showing in the results.”

And with a home tie against Berwick Rangers coming hot on the heels of Tuesday’s match, Kwame wants to keep racking up the wins before a return to league business.

“Every game we go into, we want to get three points, so that’s the main objective.

“Games come thick and fast, and we know we’ve had a slow start, so we just want to get as many wins on the bounce as possible.

“That’s three now – make it four, five, and who knows where that can take us.”

Head coach John Rankin also spoke after the match at Peterhead.

“It’s an opportunity for us to use the squad as we can – obviously we lose Burnside and Gentles, so it’s an opportunity to keep players fit, but also to make sure everybody’s fresh and hungry.

“Again, it’ll be a tough game – Bonnyrigg only got demoted to the Lowland League because of the points deficit for their pitch, so they’ve got good players.

“I want to try to get through in the cup as quickly as we possibly can, but at the same time we need to make sure that we give everybody game time.”

Robbie Mahon and Liam McLeish are unlikely to feature against the Midlothian side, but goalkeeper Ruairidh Adams may return after missing Saturday’s match with an ankle knock. Zac Butterworth and recent signing Reghan Tumilty will be given every chance to prove their fitness ahead of the trip.
