Midfielder Smith joins the Diamonds
We are delighted to announce the signing of versatile midfielder Connor Smith, who joins the club subject to SFA and international approval after leaving Scunthorpe United.
Although he spent last season with the Lincolnshire outfit, Connor will be well-known to Airdrie fans having played against the side in the past – and on occasion against older brother Callum, who had two spells in the Diamond.
Starting his career in the Hearts academy under John Rankin, Connor had notable loans at Queen’s Park and Hamilton Academical among others, and moved to St Johnstone in 2024. Another spell at Hamilton followed before moving to Scunthorpe.
Returning home to Scotland, the former youth international said: “Speaking to my brother, he basically said what a club it was – he loved his time here. And every time I’ve played here it’s been a really good atmosphere.
“I love working under the gaffer, he’s been good to me since I was a kid basically. The way he wants to play is the way I like playing football, so it was definitely a massive factor in me coming here.”
And head coach John Rankin was pleased to link up with Connor once again.
He added: “I think this is the fourth time we’ve worked together – I know exactly what he’s all about and the attributes and enthusiasm he can bring to the club.
“When he left Scunthorpe he phoned me for a bit of advice, and I was always going to be interested.
“He’s a talented footballer, the way he plays the game will be exciting and he gives us that added attacking threat. We’re delighted to get him on board.”
Welcome to the Diamonds, Connor!
