We are delighted to announce the appointment of Cole McKinnon as Airdrieonians club captain, and Craig Ross as vice-captain.

Midfielder Cole is no stranger to the armband in his career to date, and was delighted to be given the nod as the new Diamonds skipper.

He said: “It’s obviously good, probably a dream come true! I’ve always captained when I was younger, at boys clubs and then coming through the ranks at Rangers.

“So now to have the chance to do it at first team level, it’s something I’m really proud of and I’m grateful for – and I just can’t wait to get back on the pitch and put that armband on for the first time.”

And defender Craig, who has captained the side in Airdrie’s four competitive matches this season, was happy to be given the chance to deputise in an official capacity.

“I’m delighted. It’s an honour to get that off the gaffer. I’ve been a vice-captain and captain before, so it’s nothing out of the blue for me.

“Obviously I like to be loud and demanding of my team-mates on the pitch – you can get ones who are quiet on the pitch and lead by example with performances, but I like to do it with my voice!”
