Diamond Dapo joins the club
We are delighted to announce the signing of forward Dapo Mebude, who joins Airdrie subject to SFA clearance.
24-year-old Mebude, who can operate anywhere across the forward line, came through the youth system at Rangers before making moves to Watford, KV Oostende and Dunfermline Athletic.
Most recently at Arbroath, London-born Dapo has also featured for Scotland at every level up to Under-21.
Joining up with the club after impressing in pre-season, Dapo told airdriefc.com: “It’s been a few weeks since I spoke to the gaffer, so it’s good to get it sorted.
“Obviously I’ve played against Airdrie a couple of times in the last few seasons, and they’ve got a nice style of play, but I think the most important thing was the gaffer – and obviously being full-time as well.
“I’ve had a few good conversations with the gaffer, and I think he can get the best out of me.”
Head coach John Rankin was pleased to further strengthen his squad ahead of Saturday’s opening friendly fixture against Elgin City.
He said: “We’re delighted to get Dapo in – we had to work hard on this one.
"Dapo came in as one of the trialists over pre-season, and his effort level and endeavour throughout that time has been impressive and his sharpness has certainly caught the eye.
“He’s maybe at the point in his career where he needs to find a home, and hopefully we can be that place for him to kickstart his career and reignite himself.
“I’m certain he can be from the glimpses that we’ve seen of him and the quality he possesses, along with the attributes that he has. Dapo should be a star for us and a fans favourite.”
As well as carrying out his introductory media duties today, Dapo also modelled our new Puma third kit.
The eye-catching purple strip will be available soon – keep an eye on the club’s social media channels for further information.
Welcome to the Diamonds, Dapo!
