Mr Jim Neilson was our special guest in hospitality yesterday – and thanks to his generosity, Airdrieonians Football Club are now the proud owners of a very important piece of Diamonds history.

Those who attended our 1924 Centenary dinner will be familiar with the item – Jimmy Howieson’s Scottish Cup winners medal – as Jim kindly allowed it to be displayed on the evening.

The piece was a major talking point on the night, and we were humbled when Diamonds diehard Jim recently got in touch to discuss donating the medal to the club.

Jim presented the medal to director Gordon Watson prior to yesterday’s match, and as a club we can’t thank him enough for this wonderfully generous gesture.

With its status as one of the most historically significant artefacts connected with Airdrieonians FC, the medal will take pride of place in our trophy cabinet – and again we would like to express our gratitude to Mr Neilson for his outstanding generosity.
