Toon defender McArthur joins on loan
We are delighted to announce the loan signing of Newcastle United defender Charlie McArthur, subject to SFA and international clearance.
Scotsman Charlie came through the youth system at Kilmarnock, making four first-team appearance before switching to Newcastle amid interest from Liverpool and Manchester City.
A loan spell at Carlisle United a year ago saw the 6ft 2in centre-back make ten appearances for the Brunton Park side in the second half of last season.
With international appearances at U17, U19 and U21 levels, Charlie is highly regarded at St James’ Park, and Diamonds head coach Aaron Taylor-Sinclair was pleased to be able to bring him to The Albert Bartlett Stadium.
“Charlie is an exciting young defender who comes with a strong background, and the right attitude.
“This loan gives him a chance to gain more experience of senior football, and we’re confident he’ll bring hunger, professionalism, and real competition to our back line.”
Charlie added: “I’m delighted to join Airdrie on loan until the end of the season, giving me the opportunity to play senior football again.
“I want to gain as much experience as I can and improve all aspects of my game, and at the same time help Airdrie improve their position in the league.”
Our thanks go to everyone at Newcastle United for their assistance in making the move possible.
Welcome to the Diamonds, Charlie!
