Keeper McNeil makes Diamonds return
We are pleased to announce the signing of goalkeeper Andy McNeil, subject to SFA clearance.
The 24-year-old keeper is checking in for his third spell at the Albert Bartlett Stadium, having first signed in 2019 after impressing with the reserve squad.
Following a move to Berwick Rangers, McNeil returned to Airdrie on loan in 2021, with the Covid lockdown ending the Lowland League schedule.
Having spent four years at Raith Rovers, a spell which included loans to Edinburgh City and Bonnyrigg Rose, McNeil now makes his return to the Diamonds after a move to another SPFL club fell through earlier in the season due to an imposed transfer embargo.
Following Matty Connelly’s recall by Motherwell, Andy will provide competition in the goalkeeping department, and he told airdriefc.com he was delighted to be back.
“It’s good to be here, the boys have been brand new! I’ve obviously worked with Hutts before, so it’s good to see everybody.
“I’m desperate to get my feet back in the door here and be able to kick on. The boys have got a good group here, and I’m looking forward to being a part of it.”
And goalkeeping coach David Hutton is happy to working with McNeil again.
“I know Andrew very well from his previous spells here, and we’re glad to have him back to compete with Cade.
“He’s a very strong shot-stopper with real confidence and enthusiasm. I’m looking forward to working with him again.”
Welcome back, Andy!
