Hastie makes Diamonds return
We are delighted to announce the signing of forward Jake Hastie, who joins on an initial four-month loan from Ayr United, at which point the deal will become permanent.
26-year-old frontman Hastie made his senior debut for Airdrie back in 2017, going on to make 33 appearances for the club on loan from Motherwell and impressing with his pace and directness.
An impressive run of form back at his parent club led to a move to Rangers, where Jake enjoyed further spells on loan before joining Hartlepool United. A move to Ayr followed, with Hastie making 30 appearances for the Honest Men – the latest on Saturday against the Diamonds.
Checking back in nine years after his initial spell at the club, Jake told airdriefc.com: “It feels brilliant to be back, I enjoyed my first spell here when I was younger.
“I loved my time here and I’m looking forward to getting going again!
“I’ll bring a wee bit of pace and power. I’m direct and I like to get at players, get in the final third and create stuff.”
And manager Danny Lennon was pleased to sign a player he has long admired.
“We’re getting a player who is very creative in the final third. He’s somebody that knows his roles and responsibilities out of possession as much as those on the ball.
”I just feel that he’ll give us a different dimension. He’s got very good pace and awareness, and can play anywhere across the top – either wing and through the middle.
“He got bums off seats even as a 17-year-old here, and he’s far more accomplished now. It’s an exciting signing for us.”
We would like to thank Ayr United managing director Graeme Mathie and secretary Nick Provan for their assistance in making this move possible.
Welcome back to the Diamonds, Jake!
