Charlie checks back in

New boss Danny Lennon has wasted no time in bringing in his first recruit for Airdrie, and it’s a Diamonds return for midfielder Charlie Telfer.

Cultured midfielder Telfer, who rejoins subject to SFA clearance, needs no introduction to Diamonds fans as he recently spent two seasons at the club – helping the side to promotion in 2023 and picking up the Player of the Year award in 2024.

Leaving for a shot at Premier League football with Ross County last summer, Telfer returned to the Championship with a loan at Hamilton Academical in the second half of last season.

The 30-year-old now returns to the Albert Bartlett Stadium to reunite with the manager who gave him his sole Scotland U21 cap in 2015.

He told airdriefc.com: “I’m delighted to get it done, I had some really fond memories when I was here last time so I’m looking forward to making some new ones.

“I’m delighted to be working under Danny again. He was on my UEFA ‘C’ licence not so long ago as well, so it was nice to see him again there.

“I’m looking forward to getting started and working under him, and hopefully we can have a successful season.”

And manager Danny Lennon added: “Charlie is a player I’ve always had a lot of admiration for. He’s an intelligent footballer who would enhance any squad, so when I heard he was available it made sense to speak to him.

“I’m delighted to make him my first signing back here at Airdrie, and I look forward to working with him.”

Welcome back, Charlie!
