Midfielder McKinnon signs

We are delighted to announce the signing of former Rangers midfielder Cole McKinnon, subject to SFA approval.

22-year-old McKinnon left Ibrox in the summer after coming through the club’s academy system and spending five years with the senior squad.

After making a goalscoring debut for Rangers in 2022, Cole also featured in European competition in an away tie at Benfica last year.

Having spent time on loan to Partick Thistle and Ayr United, the versatile midfielder has already had a taste of Championship action as he joins the Diamonds following his departure from Rangers.

He told airdriefc.com: “I’m happy to get it done, it’s been a couple of weeks in the making but it’s good to get in now and I’ve had a good training session with the boys.

“I’d probably say the Championship is the hardest league in Scotland – you never know who’s going to win and it’s good to be involved in that.

“It’s good to be at a club like Airdrie, it’s a footballing side. I’m looking forward to getting back into it.”

And interim manager Aaron Taylor-Sinclair added: “Cole is a player that the club have been in contact with for the last few weeks. At the age of 22, he brings youth – but he also has experience and good pedigree.

“It’s a signing that will strengthen the squad further, and it’s one that we’re pleased to get done.”

Welcome to the Diamonds, Cole!
