Keeper Connelly joins on loan

We are delighted to announce the signing of goalkeeper Matty Connelly, who joins on loan from Motherwell subject to SFA approval.

22-year-old keeper Connelly was a member of the East Kilbride side which knocked the Diamonds out of the SPFL Trust Trophy on penalties last season, and has also spent time at Falkirk, Gretna 2008 and Stranraer.

Having already had a taste of first-team action with the Fir Park side this season, featuring in Premier Sports Cup wins over Peterhead and Stenhousemuir, Matty has made the short trip across Lanarkshire to join Airdrie on loan for the season.

He told airdriefc.com: “I’m absolutely delighted, to be fair. I know it’s been brewing for a few weeks, but to get it finally over the line is brilliant.

“I’m just trying to get as much game time as possible, and obviously do as well as I can for Airdrie. To gain experience is my main objective.”

And Diamonds goalkeeping coach David Hutton added: “Matty’s one we’ve been after for a while, we’ve been keeping tabs on him and when he became available we jumped at the chance.

“He’s good with the ball at his feet, a good shot-stopper, and a good all-round goalie, and it brings us that healthy competition for places that we want all over the park.”

Welcome to the Diamonds, Matty!
