We are delighted to announce the signing of experienced defender Sean McGinty, subject to SFA clearance.

English-born defender McGinty brings a wealth of experience to the backline, having represented a number of clubs north and south of the border. His Scottish Championship experience includes spells with Partick Thistle, Ayr United, and his most recent club Hamilton Academical. The 31-year-old also represented the Republic of Ireland at U17, U19 and U21 levels early in his career.

As well as bringing his vast experience to the squad, Sean is also currently working toward his UEFA ‘B’ licence with a view to becoming involved with the coaching set-up in the near future.

Taking time out from his holiday to speak to airdriefc.com, the 6’5” defender said: “I’m absolutely delighted to now be part of the Airdrieonians journey.

“I’m looking forward to working with everyone and adding my commitment, experience and enthusiasm to our team effort in the season that lies ahead.

“The one thing that I can promise to everybody, especially the fans, is that I’ll give 100% to helping the team be more successful. I look forward to seeing everyone soon!”

Manager Rhys McCabe added: “Sean is a strong leader who has captained the last two clubs he’s been at. He’s aggressive, and being left-sided he’ll provide good balance.

“He has an air of authority and is a good communicator, which should help the current squad immensely. We’re looking forward to working with him when training resumes.”
