Burton’s Bannon checks in on loan

We are pleased to announce the loan signing of versatile defender Alex Bannon, who joins from Burton Albion subject to SFA and international clearance.

21-year-old stopper Bannon, who can also operate in midfield, is no stranger to Championship football in his native Scotland.

Joining Queen’s Park at the age of nine, Alex made his Spiders debut in 2022 and managed 59 first-team appearances before making the move south of the border in June.

Having made 12 appearances for the Brewers since the summer, Alex returns to Scotland to join Airdrie until the end of the season.

After taking part in training today, he told airdriefc.com: “It was good to get started, and to be able to get a full week’s training under my belt.

“I’m here to hopefully help turn the season around – I’m hoping to play a good part defensively, I’m quite calm on the ball, I like to take it off the goalkeeper and get it on to the forward players.

“I’m still young, and I’ve had two good seasons up here with Queen’s Park. I’m excited to come here and work hard, and try to get as many minutes as possible.”

And manager Rhys McCabe added: “We’re delighted to get it done, obviously Alex is a player we’ve known for a wee while, and I was always a big admirer of the way that he played.

“He fits the profile here as well – he’s young, hungry, and desperate to play. I’m confident he’ll be a really good addition to the squad.”

Welcome to the Diamonds, Alex!
