Striker Wilson agrees terms
We are delighted to confirm that Northern Irish striker Ben Wilson has agreed a deal to join the club, and will become an Airdrieonians player when his Cliftonville contract expires at the end of the month, subject to SFA approval.
The 22-year-old striker spent five years at Brighton & Hove Albion after leaving Coleraine in 2018, and made a huge impression when he returned to his homeland with Cliftonville last summer, bagging 18 goals in 34 appearances.
Having also featured for the Northern Ireland international side at U17 and U19 levels, Wilson joins the Diamonds with an impressive pedigree for his age.
He told airdriefc.com: “I’m happy to be here, I had a good first training session and met all the boys, and it’s been good.
“I’m buzzing to be here, and looking forward to getting going. I had a good season last season so I just want to build on that again. I want to play as much games as I can and hopefully the goals will come along as well!
“The club finished fourth last season, so as a collective everybody wants to finish a bit higher, so I’ll just try to play my part in that and we’ll see what happens.”
Manager Rhys McCabe was pleased to secure the signature of the in-demand striker.
“We’ve been monitoring Ben for a large period of time. We knew he’d had interest from some big clubs in England and Scotland, so to get it over the line and get him in is credit to the guys who have put the hard work in.
“He’s a natural finisher, his numbers speak for themselves in terms of what he brings. He has really clever movement and that predatory instinct in the box.
“He should thrive in our system with the creativity that we’re looking to play with.”
Welcome to the Diamonds, Ben!
