Coop remembered in Alison’s generous gift

The club were delighted by a kind-hearted donation from Alison Gill, who presented Gordon Watson and Bobby Watson with a beautiful portrait of Diamonds hero Stevie Cooper.

The painting, of Stevie’s iconic celebration following his 1995 Scottish Cup semi-final-winning goal against Hearts at Hampden, was originally gifted to Alison’s father Willie by his colleague, award-winning artist Jim Scullion.

Willie, a lifelong Airdrie supporter who worked at Broomfield and Broadwood alongside his friend and former police colleague Ronnie Trotter, had always enjoyed his chats with striker Cooper and his wife at Broadwood.

Cooper sadly died in 2004, and when Willie also sadly passed away, daughter Alison agreed with her mother that the portrait should be gifted to the club.

Gordon and Bobby were honoured to receive the painting from Alison before Saturday’s match against Dunfermline, and the club will be proud to remember Willie – and of course Coop – by displaying this wonderful piece of art at the Albert Bartlett Stadium.
