MacDonald becomes first summer signing
Airdrie’s summer recruitment got underway today with the addition of full-back Dylan MacDonald, who will join the club following the expiry of his East Kilbride contract subject to SFA approval.
20-year-old Dylan is a right-sided defender who made a big impression with his forays down the wing over 37 appearances for the Lowland League side last season, in which he managed seven assists and four goals.
Previously in the St Mirren youth set-up, MacDonald also spent time on loan at East Stirling, and is keen to make the step up to the Championship with the Diamonds.
He told airdriefc.com: “I’m absolutely buzzing, it’ll be a different competition but I’m raring to go.
“I was an inverted full-back at East Kilbride, and I’m hoping to bring the same to Airdrie and hopefully kick on here.
“I managed to watch a few of the Friday night games last season… it’s good to be here!”
Manager Rhys McCabe was pleased to secure the signature of a player who has been on the club’s radar for some time.
“We’ve been monitoring Dylan for a while and we tried to pursue that last year.
“He’s had a really successful year at East Kilbride, and I think he’s one that when you look at what he can offer and bring to the table, there’s so much more room for growth and development, especially in the kind of style and environment that we’ve created.
“He’s one that fits the mould that we look for, and one that I think the fans will be delighted with.”
Welcome to the Diamonds, Dylan!
