Kanayo Megwa has returned to parent club Hibernian, with the Premiership club exercising their right to review the defender’s loan deal in January.

The 19-year-old Englishman made a big impression in his short time at the Excelsior, winning two fan-voted Player of the Month awards and a handful of Man of the Match awards since joining in September.

In his 14 appearances for the Diamonds, Kanayo featured primarily at right-back, but also filled in at left-back on occasion, and excelled in both positions. We’re sure he has a bright future with Hibs, and we’ll be watching his career with interest.

Manager Rhys McCabe said: “Kanayo’s spell here was enjoyable and rewarding for both sides. We’ve given him the platform to show what he can do, and you could see him growing into the position and getting stronger and more confident week by week.

“We’ve played a small part in what will be a very good career, and we wish him nothing but the best.”
