We were saddened by the news that former Airdrieonians club doctor, John Halliday, has passed away.

A valued member of the backroom staff during Bobby Watson’s tenure as manager, Dr Halliday will be greatly missed. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.

Bobby, a close friend of John’s as well as a former colleague, gave the following tribute.

“In the late 70s and early 80s, as manager of Airdrie, I was fortunate enough to meet some worthy fellow Airdrieonians, most having those ‘Diamond’ characteristics - a good sense of humour, generally kind of word, and friendly.

“The ‘Doc’ Halliday was one of those! My dear friend and past club doctor, who has passed away, was a real sparkling Diamond, and from all at New Broomfield we send our love to the lovely Isabel, Emma and David.

“From everyone at Airdrieonians FC, thanks for all the smiles and laughter as you looked after our limps and moans - and sair heids!
