We are delighted to announce the signing of defender Kanayo Megwa, who joins on loan from Hibernian until the end of the season, pending SFA approval.

Englishman Kanayo can play at right full-back or centre-back, and joins Hibs team-mates Murray Aiken and Josh O’Connor at the Excelsior as Diamonds boss Rhys McCabe strengthens his options ahead of the closure of the loan window.

Megwa, 19, had short spells playing in Dubai and in the English Championship with Watford and West Bromwich Albion before heading to Easter Road in 2021, and spent the second half of last season on loan at Kelty Hearts.

Manager Rhys McCabe told airdriefc.com: “Kanayo has been in and around the Hibs first-team and has already made his debut.

“He’s defensively very strong, and excels in one v one situations.

“He’s extremely comfortable in a few different positions, so his versatility will be an asset. We’re delighted to get him in.”

Pending approval, Megwa will join the squad ahead of Saturday’s match against Raith Rovers, and we’ll catch up with the new signing over the weekend.
