Charity match fun returns to the Excelsior

Following the huge success of recent events, this year’s Pro-Celebrity Charity Football Match at the Excelsior Stadium promises to be the biggest and best yet!

A number of ex-Diamonds will be among the football legends and celebrities from TV, movies and sport battling it out on the pitch.

This year the fundraiser will support The Schiehallion Appeal at Glasgow Children’s Hospital - a worthy cause which has been very important to the club this year.

Not many people will know that Layla, the daughter of our very own David Hutton, was recently diagnosed with stage 4 nodular predominant Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

For this reason, this year’s event will be raising funds for the ward that helped Layla and the family through this very difficult time.

Thankfully with the support of the hospital and the amazing strength of a special little girl with a loving family, Layla has come out the other side and is now all clear.

When asked about the charity match being able to support his fundraising efforts, the Diamonds goalkeeping coach was delighted.

David told airdriefc.com: “During this difficult time the support of the staff and doctors at the Schiehallion ward was amazing, we really could not have got through it without them.

“I also have to say that the support from the club and Community Trust through this time was outstanding.

“To be given the chance to raise awareness and money for the ward through the charity game is fantastic.”

This year the teams will be playing for the Faye Taylor Memorial Cup. Faye brought the match ball onto the pitch last year, however she unfortunately lost her battle with Cancer soon after the event. Faye was also a patient in the Schiehallion ward.

Come along and see some real stars - and help to support one of our own and raise some money for an extremely worthy cause.
