Gabby grabs March award

Striker Gabby McGill has scooped the cinch League 1 Player of the Month award after putting in some excellent displays and grabbing an amazing seven goals in March.

Hot on the heels of picking up the club’s own award, as voted by supporters on social media, the in-form striker has now been recognised by the league sponsors.

Bagging his first senior hat-trick in the 6-1 win over Kelty Hearts, Gabby went on to score doubles in the 7-0 demolition of Peterhead and the 5-1 win away to Clyde.

The record books will show that McGill actually notched eight this month, having been incorrectly awarded a goal after Queen of the South defender Stephen Hendrie put the ball past his own keeper at Palmerston - but the big Englishman won’t be complaining having been robbed of one in similar circumstances against Dunfermline last month.

Delighted with the achievement after a red-hot spell in front of goal, Gabby told airdriefc.com: “It’s been a good month, and it’s nice from a personal point of view to get the award.

“It ties in with three really good victories as well, so happy days!

“This year is the most confident I’ve felt on the pitch, and recently the goals have started to flow as well - hopefully that can continue.”

Let’s hope so, Gabby… congratulations!
