Bright future for Academy star
We are pleased to announce our second signing of 2023 as the new Academy set-up bears fruit and striker Bright Prince joins the senior squad.
17-year-old striker Bright Osemudiamen Prince Okosun, known simply as Bright Prince, was born in Spain and is of Nigerian descent.
Having played at various top-level academy set-ups in Spain and Germany, Bright joined the Airdrieonians Academy in the summer and has gone on to grab 11 goals in 13 matches as the young Diamonds top the Advanced Youth 18s League at the mid-season break.
Speaking to airdriefc.com, Bright said: “Of course I’m very happy, it’s clearly a really good thing - you should be delighted if you’re good enough and you work hard enough to step up to men’s football.
“Having played so many games and scored so many goals for the Academy gives you that burst of confidence that I probably need for the step up to first-team football.
“I’m delighted to be here and that the work-rate I’ve given has been rewarded.”
Manager Rhys McCabe was pleased to see the youngster make the step-up from a successful Academy side.
“Bright has done really well, as have a lot of the younger lads. He has good attributes in terms of offering something a little bit different to what we already have.
“Being in and around the first-team environment on a daily basis and learning from older pros will help Bright in the long-term, and in the short term his signing helps to bolster the squad.”
Welcome to the first-team, Bright!
