Diamond Dean makes debut

Following the completion of his signing yesterday, goalkeeper Dean Lyness was soon taking his place between the sticks for his Airdrie debut.

The 31-year-old Birmingham native left St Mirren before the transfer window closed, and joined up with his new Airdrie teammates for the first time earlier in the week.

Having gained experience in his home country with such teams as Birmingham City, Kidderminster Harriers and Blackpool, Lyness is no stranger to Scottish football with two spells in Paisley alongside stints at Raith Rovers and Heart of Midlothian.

Airdrie manager Rhys McCabe was keen to add an experienced pair of hands while Josh Rae recovers from surgery, and England U17 cap Dean certainly fits the bill.

Following his debut in the 3-3 draw with Queen of the South, the goalkeeper told airdriefc.com: “I really enjoyed being out on the pitch and getting back to doing what I love, playing football.

“I trained yesterday, so I met all the boys then and they seem like a great bunch already - it’s a very loud and lively dressing room, which is always good!”

Welcome to the Diamonds, Dean!

Meanwhile, we can confirm that Ben Wylie has returned to parent club Celtic. We thank Ben for his efforts during his short spell at the club, and wish him all the best for the future.
