Awards double for Diamonds duo

After an unbeaten August in Airdrie’s cinch League 1 campaign, Rhys McCabe and Calum Gallagher have landed the League 1 awards for Manager and Player of the month.

Player-boss Rhys began his managerial career with home wins against Alloa Athletic and Falkirk, and draws on the road against Queen of the South and Dunfermline Athletic.

Lifting the Glen’s Vodka League One Manager of the Month award, Rhys said: "I'm delighted considering the start and the tough fixtures that we had.

"It was a big thing trying to build on last season, and obviously we've managed to start well and keep that momentum - and the performances along the way have been good!"

And with four goals from number 9 Calum Gallagher helping the Diamonds to top spot at the end of the month, the striker was recognised with his second successive cinch League One Player of the Month trophy, having also won the final award of last season.

Calum said: “It’s a great start to the season for me, getting off the mark early - normally it takes me a few more weeks to get going!

“It’s been a good start and I’m hoping that I can get back to it this week up at Montrose.”

And manager Rhys also took the time to praise Gallagher’s performances, adding: “It’s probably been a bit strange for Gal in terms of being in and out, but he’s contributed with goals.

“That’s what strikers are judged on, and you know what Gal gives you - his level of professionalism is second to none and he thoroughly deserves the award.”
