Big hearted Darren’s Diamond gesture for dad

Airdrie fan Darren Cowan, who lives in Aberdeen, recently got in touch with the club with a kind request.

Darren had travelled to attend Diamonds matches with his dad Derek until his sad passing in 2020. Continuing to buy his own season ticket, Darren asked us if he could buy one in memory of Derek, to be donated to a less-fortunate supporter who may be unable to attend matches due to their own circumstances.

The club were touched by Darren’s gesture, and consulted with Airdrie Community Trust, who agreed to match Darren’s offer and suggested donating both tickets to the Petersburn and Craigneuk Residents Association.

Darren said: “The club meant so much to my dad, and he would be really pleased knowing this was happening.”

And Sharon Craig of the PCRA added: “Darren’s wonderful gesture means that people in our community can get along to see their local team when otherwise that might not have been possible for them.

“We’d like to thank Darren and the club for making this possible, and our residents are already looking forward to cheering on the Diamonds!”

Derek is pictured with Darren’s young son, and we know he would be proud of this lovely gesture.

Thank you, Darren!
