Drew Busby
Everyone at the club is extremely saddened by the news that Drew Busby passed away earlier today.
A true Airdrieonians legend, striker Drew played at Broomfield from 1970 to 1973, forming a formidable partnership with Drew Jarvie and winning the affections of all who saw him grace the Diamond.
Synonymous with a golden era for the club, Drew helped Airdrie to the 1970/71 Scottish Cup semi-final and scored in every round of the 1972 Texaco Cup with goals against Manchester City, Huddersfield Town and Ballymena.
Following season 72/73, in which Drew was the club’s top scorer, Heart of Midlothian paid a £35,000 fee for his services, and the popular striker went on to become a legendary figure at Tynecastle.
Inducted into the Airdrieonians Hall of Fame in 2014, Drew was a nominee for the club’s Greatest XI two years later.
Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.
