Smithy bags Player of the Month award
Callum Smith has been named cinch League 1 Player of the Month for March as the striker became the third consecutive Airdrie player to lift the award.
With five goals in three matches, the 22-year-old has been in red hot form in recent weeks, and was delighted to follow in the footsteps of Dylan Easton and Rhys McCabe by receiving the recognition of the league sponsors.
“It’s been very good ever since Alloa - obviously I got the two there then the two at Falkirk the week after, which was a brilliant two weeks for me.
“Then Queen’s Park as well, so it’s been hard games! I’m just delighted to get the five goals, it’s been a good month for me and the boys.
“I’m looking to get back on it this weekend, East Fife is a hard place to go but we just need to believe in ourselves again. That’s us 15 unbeaten, so there’s every chance we can go there and get a win.”
Manager Ian Murray says Callum can be proud of his achievement.
“It’s very well deserved for Smithy, he’s been really good for us all season.
“The goals top it off, but even without them he’s a very important player for us. He works incredibly hard, and that’s why we brought him back.
“He was great when he first came here, and when we had the opportunity to re-sign him it was an absolute no brainer for me, getting not only a good quality player but a good quality person.”
