Forward Smith agrees Diamonds return

We are delighted to announce the return of attacker Callum Smith, who has agreed terms on a two-year deal with the club following his departure from Hamilton Academical.

The versatile 21-year-old forward joined Airdrie on loan from Dunfermline Athletic for the 2019-20 season, scoring six goals in 35 appearances.

A move to the Premiership followed for the former Scotland Under-19 star when he left the Pars to move back to Lanarkshire, this time with Hamilton.

Having now brought the curtain down on his time with Accies, Callum was delighted to return to the Penny Cars Stadium.

He told airdriefc.com: “It’s brilliant to be back, I loved my first spell here.

“The first home game will be a good day, coming back and seeing the fans. I’d like to see us pushing at the top end of the table, it’s a big club with a good squad and I’m buzzing to be back!”

And manager Ian Murray added: “We’re delighted to get Callum back, he did exceptionally well here a couple of years ago before moving to the Premier League.

“We kept an eye on him and kept in contact with him, and Hamilton were a dream to deal with so it was a very easy decision for us.”

Pending the processing of paperwork, Callum will go straight into the squad for Saturday’s trip to Dumbarton, and we look forward to seeing him in the Diamond again!
