Dream debut for loanee Scott
Scott McGill may have signed too late to get a proper fanfare on the club website, but he certainly introduced himself in style with a screamer of a goal against Motherwell.
Midfielder McGill joins us on a six-month loan deal from Heart of Midlothian, and his paperwork was completed just in time to take a spot on the bench for Wednesday evening’s Premier Sports Cup derby match.
Introduced as a 65th-minute substitute, 19-year-old Scott watched fellow midfielder Rhys McCabe fire home an outstanding free-kick before getting involved in the goal action himself, rattling home a sensational strike from outside the box on 79 minutes.
Joining training at the Penny Cars Stadium this evening, Scott told airdriefc.com: “I couldn’t wait to come here after hardly playing last season, so coming here and getting some games under my belt made sense.
“Coming on and scoring was the perfect start, and I can’t wait to be involved again. I don’t know about scoring goals like that every week, but fingers crossed!”
Speaking to DiamondsTV after Wednesday’s match, manager Ian Murray expressed his delight at bringing Scott in.
“I’ve seen a lot of Scott, I watched a lot of Hearts before covid, so I knew what we were getting.
“He’s been in and around the Hearts first-team last season, and he’s a really good player. He wants the ball all the time.
“We’re delighted to have him and he’s going to be a big player for us.”
