Striker Gabby grabs Diamonds deal

We are delighted to announce the signing of English forward Gabby McGill.

20-year-old Gabby was most recently on the books of Dunfermline Athletic, where he spent time on loan at Edinburgh City and York City. Prior to his move north of the border, the big striker came through the youth systems at York and Middlesbrough.

Describing himself as a pacy forward with predatory instincts, the enthusiastic Yorkshireman told airdriefc.com: “In the last couple of seasons I maybe didn’t play as much as I’d have liked, but when the opportunity to join Airdrie came about I grabbed it with both hands and I can’t wait to get going.

“I’ll hopefully bring something different, I’m fast enough to get in behind and I’m clever in the way I use my body and hold the ball up.

“The most important thing for any striker is scoring goals, and I seem to find myself in the right place at the right time. Even if it’s a two-yard tap-in, if ten of them come my way in a season I’ll take them!”

Manager Ian Murray was pleased to add a further aspect to his forward line.

“I’m delighted to get Gabby in, he was training with us for about a week and we really liked him.

“He brings a different dimension to our game with his pace, and he likes to run beyond defenders.

“At 20, he’s at a great age for us to try to improve him and kick him on a little bit, so we’re really happy to bring in a player with a great attitude - he’s fit, he’s been training well and he’s ready to go.”
