Diamonds land Lyons

We are pleased to announce that former Leeds defender Luke Lyons has agreed terms and will join Airdrie pending international clearance.

20-year-old Lyons, who has represented Scotland at under-17 level, came through the academy system at Elland Road before making the switch to Bradford PA in November.

Having endured an unfortunate time with injuries and illness, the versatile defender is hoping to kick-start his career with a move north of the border.

Agreeing a deal at the the Penny Cars Stadium, he told airdriefc.com: “I’m delighted to sign for Airdrie, I’ve enjoyed my time here so far and I’m ready for the season ahead.

“As soon as I spoke to the manager I knew it was a good fit for me, and I’m looking forward to it.”

Manager Ian Murray was happy to capture a player of impressive potential.

“We had Luke in for 7-10 days after getting a recommendation from someone we know down south, and he was everything that they said.

“We’re delighted to sign him and give him a platform to go and play again after some bad luck, but he’s had a great background down at Leeds and I think he’s got a real chance of having a big future.”
