Aggy joins as Ian extends contract
We are thrilled to announce that the club has agreed terms with Scott Agnew. The midfielder will combine a playing role with duties as assistant manager to Diamonds boss Ian Murray, who has today penned a contract extension.
Cultured midfielder Scott joins following his departure from East Fife, where he made almost 100 appearances to add to a wealth of experience in the game.
Following two years in the Rangers youth set-up, Scott featured at senior level for Hamilton Academical, Alloa Athletic, Ayr United and Stranraer before joining Diamonds boss Ian Murray at Dumbarton and making over 170 appearances for the Sons. When Ian moved on to St Mirren, he made Scott one of his first signings. A return to Stranraer followed before Scott moved to East Fife.
Airdrie fans will be familiar with Scott from his many appearances against the Diamonds over the years, in which the 33-year-old has impressed with his composure on the ball, setpiece abilities and healthy scoring record.
As well as bolstering the midfield ahead of the new season, Scott will also fill the vacant assistant manager role as right-hand man to Ian Murray, bringing his considerable knowledge and experience to the coaching set-up.
Scott told airdriefc.com: “I’m really excited about joining the club. First as a player I hope I can add to what will be a strong squad for next season.
“I was lucky enough to have a few options, but the opportunity to work with Ian again in a player/assistant manager role was too good to turn down.
“I know the club will be looking to go one step further next season, and hopefully I can play a part in achieving that.”
Manager Ian Murray was pleased to further extend his time at the club, while also bringing in a familiar face as player/assistant manager.
“I’m delighted to be staying on, and I’m delighted to welcome Aggy to Airdrie. It’s the third time I’ve signed him, which shows how much I like him as a player and as a person.
“He brings great experience to the squad, and we also want to develop him in a coaching capacity and we look forward to giving him that platform.”
We are sure our management team will be working hard over the summer to ensure that the squad is ready for what will be, as always, a very competitive League One campaign.
