Captain’s comments

Club captain Sean Crighton spoke to airdriefc.com today with a message for Diamonds supporters.

“I just wanted to say I am absolutely delighted with what we have all achieved to finish second in the league and secure our play-off spot. Having missed out on the league title to a very good Partick Thistle side, our focus had to change quickly and we have done that to great effect.

“We have been in it together - from upstairs to the manager, staff and players - from day one, and we are so happy that our hard work has finally paid off. There have been struggles throughout, but we knew we could pull out all the stops to get us to this point.

“To be within touching distance of promotion is something I always wanted for the club - a chance to get Airdrie back to where it belongs. This was the reason I returned, and as club captain it would be the icing on the cake for the time I have spent here.

“We will now put our focus on Saturday, doing what we have been doing all season and taking it game by game. We are expecting a very tough match, as Cove are a very good side, but we must trust ourselves to do what we did last week and go there for the win.

“We wish the fans could be back in the stadium to cheer us on through this period, but hopefully everyone can return soon. Football is never the same without fans, but we aim to give you something to cheer at home!”

Cheers,

Sean.
