Josh Kerr is looking to the future as Airdrie aim to get back to winning ways against Forfar Athletic.

 

The Diamonds face the Loons on Saturday after a 3-1 home defeat to another Angus side, Montrose, last weekend.

 

Defender Kerr believes the manner of the defeat was particularly disappointing.

 

“It was difficult to take - it was one of those ones where nothing seems to fall for us, but right now it seems like other teams are getting half-chances against us and they just seem to go in. Reece didn’t really have any saves to make.

 

“It’s a sticky patch we’re in just now, but as a team we just need to stick together and it will turn for us. Our luck will change eventually.”

 

Airdrie had a strong start to the season in defensive terms, but have now conceded eight goals in their last four games. Kerr (21) says the Diamonds have to cut out the mistakes.

 

“It’s just individual errors - I had one myself at the weekend.

 

“Teams aren’t breaking us down, it’s not like the other side is having 10-15 chances and the goalkeeper is keeping us in it - mistakes are costing us and we need to tidy that up.”

 

Despite the disappointment of last Saturday’s result, only six points separate Airdrie from league leaders Raith Rovers, a statistic which former Celtic and Brighton man Kerr finds encouraging.

 

“If we had won our last two home league games, we’d only be a point off the top.

 

“I’ve never seen a league like this, it’s so tight. We haven’t really got started yet and we’re only six points behind the leaders, so I think it’s too early to start worrying.”

 

Saturday sees the Diamonds travel to Station Park to face a Forfar side who have picked up just one win in their last eight league matches.

 

The sides met at the Penny Cars Stadium on the opening day of the season, with the Loons grabbing the points thanks to goals from Andy Jackson and Callum Tapping early in the second half.

 

Jim Weir’s side now sit seventh in the table, four points behind Airdrie.

 

Josh is only interested in looking ahead - to Saturday’s trip to Angus and beyond.

 

“It should be a good game, we like to go and get the ball down when we can and we seem to be able to do that more away from home. We’ve always got a good travelling support and the boys respond to that.

 

“Having said that, we know we need to improve our home form if we want to challenge - if you look at league winners anywhere, they win their home games.

 

“We’ve still got time to turn it around - we’re all focussed and we don’t dwell on the past, so Saturday is another fresh start.”

 

Manager Ian Murray wants the Diamonds to continue their success on the road.

 

“We’re looking forward to it, and we’re looking forward to trying to keep our away form going.

 

“Forfar are going through a wee rough spell at the moment, but we’re looking to return the favour after their win on the opening day. 

 

“It’ll be a tight game between two good sides, so it should be a good battle.”

 

Scott Gallacher (knee) and Craig Thomson (arm) remain sidelined for Airdrie, but Kieran Millar (knee) and Ally Roy (illness) are available. David Hutton (ankle) and Adam Eckersley (rib) are still recovering and will be assessed before the squad travel to Forfar.
