Airdrieonians FC is embarking upon a change of floodlighting system over the next three weeks.

Our existing system is now over 20 years old and is no longer fit for purpose, and becoming expensive to repair and maintain.

We have been fortunate enough to qualify for a grant from the Scottish Football Partnership. Stuart McCaffrey, Chief Operating Officer of the SFP said: ”The Scottish Football Partnership is pleased to have provided Airdrieonians F.C. with grant funding to assist with the cost of upgrading the floodlight system at the Penny Cars Stadium through our Facilities Strategy Awards strand, which is designed to support Scottish FA Member clubs with key infrastructure improvements linked to their National Club License.

“We hope our investment will be of benefit to the club in the years ahead.”

The club are very grateful for the support of the Partnership in this substantial upgrade to our infrastructure.

We have appointed DC Lighting Services Limited from Dundee, the industry specialists in stadia lighting, who are installing a more energy-efficient system to achieve our mandatory lux levels with far fewer lights and less power usage.

This new system will serve the football club, stadium, youth academy, Airdrieonians Community Club and the high volume of local teams using the facilities for the next two decades.

Colin Brown from DC Lighting Services added: “The new floodlight system being installed at the ground will improve the players and spectators experience of the game.

“The existing system was no longer able to provide a safe level of illumination and was inefficient at spreading the light around the pitch.”

As our “before and after” image shows, the original 136 light fittings are being replaced with 48 state of the art metal halide luminaires which will increase the level of light on the pitch to meet current SFA requirements, and at the same time reduce the current floodlighting energy costs by 65%.

A new hand held remote operating system allows total control of the lighting solution and ensures the correct amount of light is delivered onto the pitch at all times for training or match-play lighting levels.
