Striker Ally joins the Diamonds
June 10, 2019
We are delighted to announce the signing of Northern Ireland U21 international Ally Roy.
Airdrie-born striker Ally, who joins from Partick Thistle, qualifies for the Northern Irish side through his grandfather, and gained three caps last year.
Breaking into the Hearts first team at just 17 years old in 2014, Ally went on to spend time on loan at East Stirlingshire, Stenhousemuir, Dumbarton and Sligo Rovers before joining Derry City in 2018. A move to Firhill followed in January, and Ian Murray was delighted to snap the player up following his release from the Maryhill club.
The Diamonds boss told airdriefc.com: “Ally is a player who’s already improved massively in his short time in the game, and we will help him to fulfil his potential.
“He’s very quick upfront, and we’re delighted he’s agreed to join us on a full-time basis.
“I’m confident Ally will be a real asset for us.”
Ally added: “It’s great to sign for my local club - I had offers from clubs at a higher level and in England and Ireland, but I felt that coming here was the best option at this stage in my career.
“After speaking to Stuart Millar and the gaffer, their eagerness to get me involved made it feel like the right move.
“I’m an ambitious person, and I hope I can share that with the squad and we can push each other to get the best outcome for Airdrie. On the pitch I’m a player with a lot of pace and skill - I love to give defenders a horrible time!
“I want to come here and score goals and push for the league title - and have a smile on my face while I do it!”
