Fab fun at festive friends
December 6, 2019
Airdrie Community Trust were delighted to welcome over 30 elderly guests to the Penny Cars Stadium yesterday for the SPFL Trust’s Festive Friends Christmas Lunch.
Working closely with Lanarkshire Community Food & Health Partnership and NLC's Locality Link worker Elaine O’Dowd, we brought our participants who were mainly from two sheltered housing complexes in Airdrie - Laurel Gardens and Gartlea Gardens.
We were joined by Airdrieonians Director of Football Stuart Millar, manager Ian Murray, assistant manager Colin Cameron and first team players Sean Crighton, Josh Kerr, Ally Roy and Patrick Pyott.
Entertainment was provided throughout by The Ross Owen Show and the children from Hilltop Primary sang a selection of carols for our guests.
The menu on offer, provided by Big Bite Catering, was first class as guests tucked into soup, turkey with all the trimmings, and the most incredible cheesecake ever tasted!
Transport was provided by Sam's Travel, who picked up the majority of our guests by coach - we also had two wheelchair participants and two with accessibility aids who were picked up by accessible taxis.
The guests departed with gifts from the club including Christmas hats and specially commissioned tins of shortbread with the club's badge (which will also be available from the Club Shop at Penny Cars Stadium).
A special thanks also goes to Yvonne Jamieson, David McArthur, Gordon Watson and Gordon Thomson from the Community Trust for their time and effort over the past few weeks with their help in organising this fantastic event.
