Kyle MacDonald is delighted to put his injury woes behind him, and can’t wait to face Bohemians in the Tunnocks Caramel Wafer Cup.

 

The 19-year-old joined Airdrie from Lanarkshire rivals Motherwell in the summer, but was instantly sidelined by a calf tear.

 

Having now made a full recovery and featured in the Diamonds’ last four matches, MacDonald is happy to be back and fit.

 

“It was very frustrating, I got injured on my third day and missed the whole of pre-season. It was hard watching the guys, especially in the Betfred Cup where I’d been hoping I would get a chance to play.

 

“It’s really good to get back in the team, when a new season starts you just want to get going as soon as you can, especially at a new club.”

 

MacDonald was part of a much-improved defence last weekend when the Diamonds held title favourites Falkirk to a goalless draw.

 

Coming on the back of a 4-1 defeat at East Fife, the full-back hailed a solid defensive display.

 

“It was tough, but I felt that we held our own. We were much more solid at the back and the communication was better.

 

“Just sitting talking through games and identifying where we need to improve has made the difference, so hopefully we’ll continue to get better.”

 

Airdrie get a break from League One action this weekend as Dublin side Bohemians visit the Penny Cars Stadium for a Tunnocks Caramel Wafer Cup tie.

 

Kyle can’t wait for the third round meeting.

 

“I’m looking forward to it, I played against Crusaders and Sligo Rovers with Motherwell.

 

“I’m expecting a physical game, but I’m sure we can stand up to the challenge. The standard over there is really good, so I think it could be a cracking game.

 

“I’m not sure what the gaffer’s plans are for the team, but if I’m playing I’ll give it all and go into it with confidence.”

 

Manager Ian Murray is anticipating an interesting match.

 

“Bohemians look like a well-drilled side who are dangerous on the counter, so we’ll have to be wary of that, but I’m sure if they watched our game against Falkirk they’ll be saying the same about us.

 

“It’s gearing up to be a good game - we’re looking forward to it, and we feel that we have the quality to get through the tie.”

 

Goalkeeper Reece Willison (hand) remains sidelined through injury for the Diamonds, but Adam Eckersley and Nat Wedderburn could return to the squad.
