Goalie Reece checks in
May 29, 2019
We are delighted to announce that former Celtic goalkeeper Reece Willison has agreed terms on a deal to join Airdrieonians.
The 20-year-old was snapped up by the Premiership champions after earning a reputation in the youth systems at Aberdeen and St Mirren, going on to feature at U20 and reserve level for the Glasgow club.
Signing a pre-contract agreement with the Diamonds this morning, Reece told airdriefc.com: “Airdrie are a huge club at this level, so the opportunity to come here and fight for a first-team place was very attractive.
“There’s obviously strong competition for the number one jersey, but I’ve had good relationships with every other goalkeeper I’ve worked with, so I’m looking forward to continuing that here.
“I’m still young, so at the moment I’m just concentrating on playing as many games as I can. As far as the team are concerned, promotion to the Championship is our aim and I'd be delighted to play a part in that.”
Director of Football Stuart Millar added: “Reece has had an impressive grounding at Celtic and other big clubs, and he comes here with a fantastic reputation.
“With David Hutton and Andrew McNeil also agreeing terms, and Scott Gallacher continuing his road to recovery, it gives us very healthy competition for the goalkeeping position.”
